We’re proud to share that the third boiler is now fully operational, marking a historic step for Termotecnica Industriale and for Natref in Sasolburg, South Africa.
This project marks a strategic shift away from coal-derived steam, enabling Natref to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions by replacing high-carbon coal with a by-product from their own production, turning waste into a growth resource. The project is expected to eliminate imported coal steam entirely and reduce Natref’s energy carbon footprint.
Termotecnica Industriale developed bespoke technologies to meet the client’s specific needs. Key innovations included the ability to burn highly volatile liquid fuels directly, without prior vaporization, providing a simple, compact, and reliable solution with emissions better than required.

• 3 boilers, 60 t/h each, with steam at 400°C and 42 kg/cm²
• Single TIN burner (SBT-1) at 50 MW, capable of using liquid, gas, or a combination
• Flexible and automated fuel management system
• 93.5% efficiency on LHV

• Compact design for road transport over long distances
